Judicial Council marks 100th anniversary, honors staff and announces executive leadership changes

The Judicial Council screened a short video marking its 100th anniversary during the Feb. 20 business meeting, highlighting the council’s role in court modernization, language access, self‑help services and courthouse construction.
Administrative Director Shelley Curran drew attention to the council’s 2025 year‑in‑review and noted staff milestones: approximately 61 staff members recognized, including 30 with 20 or more years of service. Curran announced the appointment of a new chief administrative officer (referred to in the meeting materials and on the floor as Bridal Skwerbeck / Erica) effective Feb. 9 and introduced the appointee to the council.
The council honored Chief Legal Officer Debbie Brown, who is retiring after 28 years of public service with the Judicial Council. Curran read a resolution commending Brown’s contributions, including work on the Trial Court Funding Act, the transition of county employees to court employment, and legal leadership during the COVID‑19 pandemic; Brown spoke briefly and received the council’s appreciation.
The centennial video traces the council’s 1926 constitutional origins and highlights recent achievements such as expanded remote access, language access work and courthouse construction and sustainability efforts.
What’s next: the council said it will continue centennial activities throughout the year and publish commemorative material online.
