Nehalem council approves liquor license, appoints two to budget committee and hears public works updates

At its May 12 meeting the Nehalem City Council approved a seasonal OLCC permit for Catman Cellars LLC, appointed Kay Altman and Angela Hanke to the Budget Committee (all motions passed 3-0), approved minutes from two prior meetings, and received public works updates including a connected raw-water line and an OHA drinking-water performance award.
The Nehalem City Council on May 12 approved several routine items and heard staff updates. The council voted 3-0 to approve the minutes of the March 6 and April 10 meetings (Yes: Hilary Howell, Dave Cram and Kristina Quintana).
City Manager Lori Longfellow told the council that Catman Cellars LLC had applied for a seasonal Oregon Liquor Control Commission permit; Councilor Dave Cram moved to approve the application, Council President Hilary Howell seconded, and the motion passed 3-0.
Longfellow also reported two volunteer appointments to the Budget Committee. Council President Howell moved to appoint Kay Altman; Councilor Kristina Quintana seconded and the motion passed 3-0. Councilor Dave Cram moved to appoint Angela Hanke; Council President Howell seconded and that motion also passed 3-0.
Public Works Director Brian Moore updated the council on infrastructure work. He said the Anderson Creek Raw Water Line phase 2 has been connected to the city system and the city may now utilize it; "the meter will be installed there once it arrives," he reported. Moore said the connection and the intertie improve the city's readiness for a possible drought season. Moore reviewed quotes for chain-link fencing for the 8th Street project and said he preferred chain-link over railing on safety grounds, noting children might climb a railing. He also reported that the Oregon Health Authority Drinking Water Services awarded the city a certificate for "Outstanding Performance." Mayor Phil Chick congratulated the public works staff.
