Public commenters urge land acknowledgement, immigrant relief fund; raise homelessness and speeding concerns

Several residents used the public-comment period to press the council on community and public-safety issues. Tina Silva urged the council to adopt a land acknowledgement recognizing the Tongva people and to establish an immigrant-relief or compassion fund to help families affected by immigration enforcement. "By incorporating land acknowledgements at city council meetings, the city demonstrates leadership, respect for history, and a commitment to reconciliation," Silva said.
Other speakers highlighted homelessness and neighborhood safety. Kizzy thanked the Ontario Police Department for ongoing outreach but described Grove Plaza as a "hotbed for nefarious activities," reported public bathing and indecent behavior, and urged enforcement and property-owner follow-up. She also reported parents speeding near Levi Dickey School, saying cars were doing "upwards of 40 miles per hour on a 25 zone."
Eugenio Lozano described personal experiences of homelessness and urged the city to address obscured or missing speed-limit signs and street lighting. Staff offered to connect him with the housing director, Albert Ramirez.
Separately, Michael Kraus promoted upcoming events, including a professional baseball team launch at Ontario Town Square and the Route 66 Cruisin' Reunion with more than 1,100 preregistered classic cars.
