Greeley County board elects Reilly chair, confirms appointments and adopts routine policies

At its Jan. 11 meeting the Greeley County Board of Commissioners elected Leo Reilly chair for 2011, named Doug Wrede vice‑chair, set its meeting schedule and approved a slate of appointments and administrative policies including depositories, mileage and a county burial allowance.
The Greeley County Board of Commissioners reorganized for 2011 at its Jan. 11 meeting, electing Leo F. Reilly as chairman and naming Doug Wrede vice‑chairman. The board established regular meetings for the second and last Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. and designated the Greeley Citizen as the official county newspaper.
County Clerk Mindy A. Grossart, acting as temporary chair, opened nominations and oversaw the roll‑call votes. Michael Goldfish moved to nominate Reilly as chairman; Goldfish and Wrede voted yes and Reilly abstained. Reilly then moved to nominate Wrede as vice‑chair; Reilly and Goldfish voted yes and Wrede abstained.
The board approved a series of routine administrative items: a list of county depositories and authorization for the county treasurer to invest idle funds, and a mileage reimbursement rate of 51¢ per mile effective Jan. 1, 2011 (with a 3¢ additional allowance for the Sheriff when serving papers, consistent with Section 81‑1176). The board also set health‑benefit policy that dual family health/dental coverage is not allowed and approved that health insurance is a fringe benefit with no cash substitute for employees who decline coverage.
On personnel, the commissioners confirmed several appointments: Steve Rasmussen as county surveyor; Don Roy as highway superintendent and emergency manager; Walter Bjorklund as weed superintendent; and Franz Trumler as planning & zoning administrator (with specific monthly phone reimbursement). The board also appointed Dr. Dan Harrahill as county doctor and adopted a county burial policy that applies other available resources (insurance, Social Security, savings) against the county allowance ($1,200 for casket burial; $900 for cremation).
The reorganizational actions were adopted by roll‑call votes recorded in the minutes; claims and payroll were approved as part of routine business. The board adjourned the Jan. 11 session after completing the organizational agenda and several clerical resolutions.
