Greeley County adopts 2012–2013 budget after public hearing; approves modest lid exceedance

The preliminary budget reflected increased requests from county officials driven largely by the reassumption of the assessor’s office; the board negotiated and reduced some requests during review sessions.
At the hearing the board discussed the proposed property tax request and the county tax rate. After public comment and internal discussion the board approved exceeding the property‑tax lid by 1% to accommodate necessary expenditures and adopted final budget figures and a tax levy. The minutes record a proposed property tax request and final tax rate adjustments recommended following the CPA’s review and board discussion.
The board also approved routine county match requests for regional services, adopted staffing and purchase decisions necessary to operate county offices including the assessor transition, and set follow‑up tasks for equipment purchases and grant applications to support assessor and GIS work.
The board emphasized the need to balance fiscal prudence with the costs of moving administrative functions in‑house and maintaining critical services such as road maintenance and public safety.
