Summary
At its Jan. 10 organizational meeting the Greeley County Board of Commissioners elected Leo Reilly chair and Doug Wrede vice‑chair, approved routine administrative policies including mileage and burial allowances, and appointed several county officials including the highway superintendent and planning administrator.
The Greeley County Board of Commissioners convened Jan. 10, 2012, and elected Commissioner Leo F. Reilly as board chairman and Commissioner Doug Wrede as vice‑chair for the year. Mindy A. Grossart, county clerk, presided as temporary chair at the start of the meeting and conducted the roll call before the board voted.
The board set its regular meeting schedule for the second and last Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m., designated the Greeley Citizen as the official county newspaper, and waived reading of the Dec. 27, 2011 minutes.
In routine organizational business the board appointed a slate of county officers and staff: Steve Rasmussen as county surveyor, Don Roy as highway superintendent and emergency manager, Walter Bjorklund as weed superintendent (with mileage reimbursement), and Franz Trumler as planning and zoning administrator (with a $25 monthly phone reimbursement). The board also approved a group of local banks as official depositories and authorized the county treasurer to invest idle funds appropriately.
The commissioners set the county mileage reimbursement rate at 55.5¢ per mile effective Jan. 1, 2012, consistent with Section 81‑1176, with the sheriff authorized to charge an additional 3¢ per mile when serving papers. The board adopted a county burial policy establishing a $1,200 allowance for casket burials and $900 for cremations, with other available resources (savings, insurance, Social Security funeral benefits) required to be applied against the county allowance.
Payroll, vendor claims and personnel policies were addressed as part of the organizational work: deputy pay was fixed at 75% of the official’s salary, non‑official and hourly employees were approved for a 3% increase, and official holidays were adopted per statute 25‑2221. Vacation and sick‑leave terms for road employees were also confirmed, including an additional five days of vacation after 20 years’ service.
The meeting adjourned after routine business and reports; subsequent meetings in 2012 addressed other administrative and program matters.
