Putnam County approves partnership with Calvary Life Center to expand swim lessons

Putnam County commissioners voted April 14 to enter a memorandum of understanding with Calvary Life Center to use the center’s indoor, junior-Olympic-sized pool for county swim lessons and related programming.
Parks and Recreation staff described the arrangement as long-term and at no direct facility cost to the county; Calvary Life Center will be responsible for maintenance and chemical costs while the county will provide certified Red Cross lifeguards and manage programmatic offerings. Staff said the partnership could double the number of swim lessons the county offers, easing waitlists and expanding access for underserved areas.
Commissioners supported the MOU, noting the county’s swim lesson demand and the pool’s importance to public safety in a waterfront community. The board approved the MOU by voice vote. Staff said any program use would include appropriate staffing and may produce modest offsetting revenue from swim lesson fees.
Next steps: staff to finalize the MOU and begin coordinating program schedules and lifeguard staffing plans with Calvary Life Center.
