Board approves AP computer science to count for one math or science credit under Act 86

The Chartiers Valley School District Board voted unanimously on Feb. 28 to allow students to earn one math or one science graduation credit by successfully completing an AP computer science course.
Under the motion, students who complete AP Computer Science A or AP Computer Science Principles may receive either one math credit (provided they have already completed Geometry) or one science credit (provided they have already completed Chemistry). The change was presented as being consistent with Act 86 of 2016.
The motion (agenda item 7.1) was moved by Jeff Choura, seconded by Julie Murphy, and passed on a voice vote. Superintendent Dr. Brian White and board members discussed the administrative conditions for awarding the credits and confirmed the policy change aligns with the cited state statute.
