Committee reviews staff compensation policies to align with Educator Assistance Act
Summary
The policy committee discussed GBC and GCB, clarified that GCB was updated in September 2025 to reflect the Educator Assistance Act and agreed to add references or updated revision dates to GBC so both policies and teacher contracts align; the committee will forward the changes for Committee of the Whole review in April.

The policy committee reviewed proposed updates to staff compensation policies GBC (staff compensation) and GCB (professional staff contracts and compensation), aiming to ensure both policies and teacher contracts reflect the Educator Assistance Act and recent legislative changes.
Allison Hannah, the committee's attorney, said GCB was updated last fall to incorporate the new law: "We did that last fall," she stated, and that contracts had been revised to include language about tentative assignments and salary schedules for certified employees. Committee members flagged confusion because the GBC document on the agenda still showed an original issue date of October 2016 while GCB displayed a September 2025 revision date.
Committee discussion focused on ensuring both policy texts and displayed revision dates consistently reference the new law and the updated contract language. Hannah noted GBC is a more general policy that covers support staff broadly and does not yet contain the new statutory language, but the committee can add a reference and update the revision date if members prefer.
Why it matters: Aligning policy text, contract language and revision dates helps ensure district procedures for issuing contracts, tentative assignments and salary schedules comply with recent state legislation and board expectations.
What happens next: Staff and counsel will reconcile the policy language and dates and bring the revised GBC and GCB to the Committee of the Whole in April for consideration.
The committee moved on to review other agenda items.
