Belvidere City Council approves two Deerwoods 2 replats, appoints outside counsel and refers IT-services proposal

The Belvidere City Council on the regular January agenda adopted two ordinances on second reading to replat lots within the Deerwoods 2 final plat and approved related administrative actions.
The council approved Ordinance 7 48 H, authorizing the "Resubdivision of Lots 5 and 6 of the final plat of Deerwoods 2," and Ordinance 7 49 H, authorizing the "Resubdivision of Lots 34 and 35 of the final plat of Deerwoods 2." After no substantive questions, the clerk recorded the final roll-call tallies as 10 in favor for each ordinance, and both motions passed.
Chair (presiding official) noted there were no registered public comments or hearings on the items before the council voted. The council also approved committee minutes from the December 22, 2025 meeting before taking the ordinances up.
In related business, Chairwoman Frank moved to appoint Clark Baird Smith LLP attorney Ben Gert as outside counsel for the city on collective bargaining matters; the council approved the appointment on a recorded vote of 10–0. The motion to appoint was presented as a committee recommendation and carried without recorded opposition.
Separately, a proposal from Petrie Design for IT services was on the agenda. The mayor asked that outstanding questions be answered before final consideration; Alderman Hoynes moved, and Alderman Montalbano seconded, a motion to refer the proposal back to committee. The referral passed 10–0, and the item was scheduled to return to the committee meeting on January 26, 2026, for further review.
The meeting included routine procedural business and no registered public commenters on these items. The council adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
