Marquette County OKs three-year medical examiner contract with Dickinson County, appoints Dr. Cristanelli

The Marquette County Board of Commissioners approved on April 7 a three-year Medical Examiner services agreement with Dickinson County covering April 11, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028 and authorized the chair to execute the agreement.
Administrator Duane DuRay told the Board the proposed agreement keeps a similar structure to the county’s prior 12-month contract and includes updated language and a revised fee schedule. The services were budgeted at $300,000 annually; calendar year 2025 closed out at approximately $227,000 in total expenditures.
Commissioner Numinen moved to approve the agreement and Commissioner Nordeen seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with all four commissioners present voting aye. The Board also approved a companion resolution to appoint Dr. Martin Cristanelli, MD, board-certified in pathology, as Marquette County Chief Medical Examiner for April 11, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028; the appointment resolution was adopted (4-0).
The board’s action formalizes a multi-year interlocal arrangement for medical examiner services and files the appointment with the State of Michigan for compliance purposes.
