At its April 1 meeting the Altoona City Council approved a multi‑item consent agenda that included routine bills and pay applications, a $10,799 change order for the North Water Tower project, and a pay application of $20,405 to Landmark Structures. The council set public hearings for April 15 and May 6, 2024, on the FY24/25 budget, the Tuscany Pond enhancement project, several rezoning requests including a four‑parcel rezoning to C‑4 (4.914 acres), and a zoning restriction lift request at 501 8th Street SW to allow restaurants and cafes.
Council also approved moving forward with an agreement to pursue $500,000 in funding from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship for the Townsend Pond Project and considered Aquatic Park rates and event requests for the season. The council approved a Class C retail alcohol license (outdoor & catering) for Fireside Grille LLC on a roll call vote recorded 5–0.
Several consent items were noted as requiring further review or to be acted on at subsequent meetings; public hearings were scheduled so the council can take formal action after required public notice and comment periods.
