Altoona awards $4.81 million 8th Street SW reconstruction contract to Absolute Concrete

The Altoona City Council on April 1 approved plans and formally awarded the contract for the 8th Street SW Reconstruction – Phase 2 project to Absolute Concrete Construction, Inc. of Granger after receiving seven bids. City Engineer John Dostart told the council that Absolute Concrete submitted the lowest responsive bid at $4,814,258; the engineer’s estimate had been $6,335,000. Snyder & Associates reviewed the bids and recommended awarding the contract to Absolute.
Council votes at the meeting approved the plans, specifications and estimated costs and later approved the contract and bond; motions approving the contract and marking the award were made subject to City Attorney Bob Laden’s review. Recorded roll call votes on the related resolutions were 5–0.
The project moves forward under a State of Iowa contract; the council’s approvals complete the local authorization steps needed to proceed with the awarded contractor subject to final legal review.
