Sumter trustees review plan to use Title I funds for school-based recruitment bonuses

Pamela Rhodes, the district’s director of federal programs, told the Sumter School District Board of Trustees on March 23 that Title I spending is largely on track and that school-based recruitment bonuses are an allowable, documented Title I activity.
Rhodes said FY2024 Title I had 0.31% unspent ($26,101.57) and FY2025 currently shows about 11.21% remaining. She described one pilot school that allocated $2,500 in its FY26 Title I plan and proposed offering five $500 recruitment bonuses to the first five new hires, with the payout timing — midyear or end of year — still under consideration.
