Webster County supervisors unanimously approve vehicle purchases, courthouse payment, change order and personnel moves

The Webster County Board of Supervisors met July 2, 2024 in Fort Dodge and unanimously approved a slate of routine but budgetary actions, including county vehicle purchases, construction payments and personnel changes.
Supervisor Campbell moved and Supervisor Carlson seconded to buy four pursuit-rated police vehicles under Iowa State bid pricing: two 2024 Ford F-150 police pursuit trucks from Fort Dodge Ford for a combined $96,096 and two 2024 Dodge Durango police pursuit vehicles from Shimkat Motors for $86,576. The board said the purchases will replace units in the county fleet and are budgeted in the new vehicle fund; the motion carried unanimously.
Supervisor Hayek moved and Supervisor Thode seconded approval of Pay Application No. 13 for the County Courthouse HVAC Project, authorizing a payment of $435,479.80 to Woodruff Construction, LLC. The board approved the payment unanimously.
Supervisor Thode moved and Supervisor Campbell seconded to approve Change Order No. 6 to Wicks Construction for the Badger Trail Project in the amount of $22,346.98, a measure recommended by Conservation Director Matt Cosgrove; the motion carried unanimously.
On personnel, Supervisor Carlson moved and Supervisor Hayek seconded to accept and authorize hiring Taylor Kennedy as a noncertified deputy sheriff at $27.91 per hour, effective July 8, 2024, per the recommendation of Sheriff Luke Fleener; the motion carried unanimously. The board also approved a set of consent-agenda personnel actions including the resignation of Shelly Escobedo (Victim/Witness Coordinator, County Attorney’s Office) effective July 3, 2024; the resignation of Duane Heun (Class A Equipment Operator, Secondary Roads) effective Aug. 29, 2024; the transfer of Clay Greve within Secondary Roads and authorization to fill the resulting vacancy; and the hiring of a temporary Conservation Aide effective July 1, 2024.
The board received and placed on file two Veterans Affairs reports — the FY24 fourth-quarter Persons Served report and the FY2023 Geographic Distribution of VA Expenditures (GDX) — and approved an agreement with Electronic Engineering Co. for a communications radio antenna per recommendation of MIS/GIS Director Andy McGill. Supervisors authorized the chair to sign a funding agreement for a Traffic Safety Improvement Program grant. The board allowed claims and adjourned.
