Summary
Visit Greater Palm Springs senior director Lauren Brueggemanns described a four‑pillar approach (conservation, community, culture, commerce), highlighted regional sustainability programs, workforce and youth initiatives, accessibility and autism‑friendly certification, and cited tourism's regional economic impacts.
Lauren Brueggemanns, senior director of destination stewardship for Visit Greater Palm Springs, presented the "4 C's" framework — conservation, community, culture and commerce — and described how the organization promotes sustainable tourism across the nine Coachella Valley cities.
Brueggemanns said tourism is the region's largest economic driver, accounting for "1 in 4 jobs, over 50,000 jobs, a $9,100,000,000 economic impact" to the region, and emphasized storytelling to spotlight local conservation groups such as Friends of the Desert Mountains and the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. She highlighted two years of recognition in Green Destinations' top 100 and a Kind Traveler partnership that has raised more than $45,000 for two nonprofit partners since 2023.
On community and workforce, Brueggemanns outlined youth engagement and workforce pipeline programs — student hospitality day (capacity about 120), a 4‑week leadership program (growing from 10 to 12–14 students), internships at Visit Greater Palm Springs and scholarships administered in partnership with College of the Desert and CSUSB. She described partnerships with school CTE directors and 1 Future Coachella Valley to recruit students.
For accessibility and culture, she noted the region's work with local tribes on cultural interpretation, certification as an autism‑friendly destination with IBCCS, and accessibility mapping with Wheel the World for nearly 30 properties in the valley. Brueggemanns offered her email for follow‑up: laurenb@visitgreaterps.com.
Commissioners asked about program scale, funding and partnerships; Brueggemanns said funding comes from donations and grants and described the foundation structure and local partnerships. The commission thanked the presenter and indicated interest in continued collaboration.
