The Nassau County School Board voted on multiple personnel items at its Nov. 18 reorganization meeting. An early motion to accept a revised senior payroll specialist job description that included compensation changes failed after several board members raised concerns about the district’s financial position and hiring constraints.
Following an amendment of the agenda, the board approved revisions to a financial job description to reclassify an accountant position as a payroll specialist and later approved a separate action to update the senior payroll specialist job description to reflect actual duties "without a change in funding," according to Dr. Kathy Burns. The board recorded these votes by voice.
A board member noted the district is monitoring vacancies and said staff have been updating job descriptions as people leave; another member cited a projected cost of about $1,221 for the proposed increase when discussing timing. The board directed staff to bring clarified job‑description language forward and placed related follow‑up items on future agendas.
