Big Bend Minority Chamber presents $27,000 to district foundation, nears $300,000 in fundraising

The Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce presented a $27,000 check to the Leon County Schools foundation during the Jan. 27 board meeting, a ceremonial recognition that drew thanks from the superintendent and trustees.
Antonio Jefferson, the chamber's president, introduced founder and board chairman Sean Pittman, who described the golf tournament fundraising effort and said proceeds are funneled largely to Title I schools. Pittman said the event has moved the effort "closer to $300,000" and expressed an aspiration to reach $500,000 and eventually $1,000,000 if participation and sponsorship continue to grow.
Trustees, the superintendent and the district's foundation representatives thanked the chamber, and the board posed for a ceremonial presentation photo. Superintendent Hannah later said community partners like the chamber are a big reason for observed successes at Title I schools.
The presentation included recognition of sponsors and a call for continued partnership to support schools in the district.
