Chief and principal say 'Critical Moves' tabletop exercise improved school-first-responder coordination at W.T. Moore

Chief of Safety and Security Jimmy Williams and Principal Billy Millard described a tabletop exercise at W.T. Moore that tested crisis-response coordination among school staff and first responders.
Williams said the 'Critical Moves Tabletop Exercise,' facilitated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Division of Emergency Management, used game-board elements to simulate responses and to give participants discrete moves. He said representatives from FDLE, the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County EMS, Tallahassee Fire Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Office participated and that the exercise revealed areas to improve communication and planning.
Millard said the exercise allowed school staff to put training into practice and hear in real time how first responders would communicate via dispatch and radio, and called the interaction reassuring. Chief Williams added that the district’s 'blue shirts' (Safe School officers) share radio frequencies with first responders by design and that the exercise produced positive feedback from the facilitating agencies. The district said staff will address gaps identified during the exercise.
No formal board action was taken; the presentation was an informational spotlight on school safety and community partnerships.
