School of Arts and Sciences seeks 15-year charter renewal; district committee finds it meets standards

Lisa Urban, representing the School of Arts and Sciences (SAST), presented the school's renewal application and the renewal committee's findings. She said the committee conducted classroom observations, interviewed administrators and board members, and reviewed an evaluation tool covering 26 areas. "Overwhelmingly, out of all of the areas, the Committee voted that, they meet the standard in every area," Urban said.
Urban told the board SAST asked for a 15-year renewal term and that the school's current charter term ends on June 30, 2026. She said SAST currently enrolls about 462 students in grades K–8 and that the school does not plan to expand or open an additional site as part of this renewal.
Board members asked whether expansion or opening another location was included in the renewal application; Urban said the application did not request additional locations and the school intends to keep its current enrollment cap.
The board received the committee's report and thanked Urban for the presentation. The renewal will proceed through the district's public process.
