Board to advertise changes to instruction policy and to observe Holocaust Remembrance Day

Assistant Superintendent Wallace Knight told the board on Feb. 9 that two policy amendments will be advertised for approval.
Policy 20215 (Program of Instruction): Knight said the revisions require the district to submit a required instruction‑implementation plan to the commissioner of education in accordance with "Florida Administrative Code 6A‑1.094124." The policy will also add a resiliency education section requiring civic/character and life‑skills instruction to support mental health, and a disability‑history and awareness instruction section.
Policy 8800 (Religious and Other Ceremonies and Observances): Knight said the revision adds language to observe Jan. 27 as Holocaust Remembrance Day and permits instruction on the harmful impacts of the Holocaust and antisemitism as well as the contributions of Jewish communities. He said the change is based on Senate Bill 356 and the new Florida statute cited in the packet.
Board members asked for confirmation that the amendments are grounded in state law; Knight confirmed they are. No vote was taken; the board will see the advertised amendments on the agenda for formal action in a future meeting.
