Public commenter urges faster action on consolidation, asks for plan to boost student outcomes and pay

Scott Mazer, who identified himself as representing Leon Classroom teachers and instructional staff, used the public-comment slot to press the board for clearer, faster action on facility consolidation and workforce retention. "What is the plan to get Leon County Schools number 1 in student performance? What is the plan to get Leon County Schools number 1 in employee pay?" he asked.
Mazer said consolidation discussions that date back three years (and in some cases five or eight years) leave the district behind current needs and that half-measures will not solve staffing and culture problems. He urged the board to consider immediate options such as using empty school space now and prioritizing people and resources rather than waiting years for construction or other long-term solutions.
Board members thanked him for the comment; the workshop did not include a formal response or action on consolidation during the session.
