CTE audit preview: district to launch Perkins local needs assessment next month

Roberson told the board the item was a preliminary snapshot of the district’s career and technical education (CTE) program audit and a mapping of career clusters across high schools and virtual school.
He said the next step is a comprehensive local needs assessment, required under the Perkins Act, that will convene local industry, school principals and other stakeholders to identify job demands and align program offerings. “We’re gonna be assessing what our needs are and meeting with various stakeholders,” Roberson said, adding that the work will inform the Perkins application and work-based learning opportunities for the next two years.
Board members asked whether the district’s existing citizen advisory groups would serve this work; Roberson said the assessment will engage local stakeholders and school principals and that Lively (the district’s postsecondary/technical site) would also be involved. He said the timeline to start that conversation is next month and that principals and local industry will help shape program-to-workforce connections.
No formal action was taken at the workshop; staff said they will proceed with stakeholder outreach and the needs-assessment timeline.
