During the workshop the board received several operational updates and raised process concerns.
Background rescreening: A staff member explained that the district pays the Florida Department of Law Enforcement $60 every five years for each employee’s background maintenance and fingerprint record. A board member said some volunteers and parents had been asked for additional checks earlier and staff noted that law enforcement officers’ existing level‑2 credentials are used rather than rerunning fingerprint checks.
Transportation: A board member raised a parent’s concern about after‑school travel for an ESE student who had been required to miss work to drive the child to a program; staff said they would follow up with the Roberts site administrator and troubleshoot routing as needed. Separately, members discussed recent additions of vans to middle and high schools to help transport smaller teams and noted that open‑campus policies at some high schools affect participation rates.
Facility upkeep and legislative outreach: Members asked maintenance to take down a tattered American flag at Cobb Elementary and replace it; several members also reported that a delegation meeting had included board priorities (pre‑K funding, ESE issues and CTE funding requests) and that some appropriation asks (such as Lively expansion) will continue through legislative channels.
Ending: Staff promised follow-up on the flagged items and to include clearer fiscal-impact statements on agenda items going forward.
