District to house more Head Start classrooms in school buildings beginning in January

Brooke Bruner presented four proposed Head Start lease agreements that would place classrooms and office space in district-owned schools starting in January as part of an expansion to co-locate early-childhood services in public-school facilities.
Bruner said the move mirrors previous leases and will place an additional classroom at Pine View Elementary, three classrooms plus office space at Hartsfield Elementary, and a classroom and office space at Sable Palm, with further expansion planned into August as federal-grant requests and seat availability permit. She described a two‑pronged approach: relocating some existing Head Start classrooms (for example, from Mabry) into public schools and requesting additional seats through Head Start to serve more children.
Board members welcomed the plan and asked whether seats would be newly created or relocated; Bruner said at minimum seven additional classes could move into district schools and that further growth depends on federal grant awards. The board did not vote on the leases at the workshop; Bruner said the leases would go into effect in January and staff will bring necessary documents forward for formal action.
