The FSUS board received reports on new grants and recent facilities work at the Nov. 18 meeting.
Dr. Megan Crombie, Director of Research, Data & Learning, said the school had earned five Project Spark grants totaling $170,349. The grants are intended to incentivize researchers to collaborate with K–12 teachers and will support projects that include research on AI in mathematics, evaluation of the CTE program and literacy supports for older students.
Dr. Christopher Small also reported that the school was awarded the 'Ancient Artifacts of Living Cells' grant, which will provide FSUS with access to an electron microscope, expanding laboratory opportunities for students and faculty.
On facilities, Assistant Director Pock'o Vause outlined completed CTE improvements funded through the CTE grant, including power and data additions in Digital Media and Commercial Media Production rooms, mobile storage cabinets, portable room dividers, new worktables, new sinks for the CNA program, and new culinary tables. Playground improvements — including replacement of the merry‑go‑cycles — and athletic‑field work for baseball/softball were reported as on schedule; the gym lobby has been repainted and a new floor covering and color have been selected.
The board recorded these updates as informational; no formal votes were taken on the grants or the facilities items at this meeting.
