Waconia School Board approves updated employee handbook, backs MSHSL Foundation applications

Waconia Public School District’s School Board voted unanimously Nov. 17 to adopt updated language for the district’s employee handbook and approved multiple routine personnel and consent items.
The board, convened by Chair Amott at 7:00 p.m. at the district office, approved the updated employee handbook language on a motion by Board Member Wilson, seconded by Kelzer-Breeden. The motion passed with all seven board members in favor (Amott, Bergstrom, Kelzer-Breeden, Wilson, Rosin, Hagen, Arnita).
During the consent portion of the meeting the board approved bills and wire transfers, multiple human-resources actions and leaves, assurance of compliance with state and federal nondiscrimination law, and receipt of donations. The board moved to remove items 5.D and 5.E for separate consideration before approving the remainder of the consent agenda; that procedural motion was made by Kelzer-Breeden and seconded by Arnita and passed unanimously.
The board also approved two resolutions supporting Form A and Form B applications to the Minnesota State High School League Foundation. Rosin moved to approve both resolutions; Hagen seconded and the motion carried with all in favor. The resolutions, as presented, indicate board support for district applications to the MSHSL Foundation for student activity assistance.
Director of Human Resources Jeni Super presented the personnel slate included in the consent agenda. The district listed new hires (for example, Nancy Canterbury as an educational assistant in SPED at WEC, a 6.5-hour-per-day position for 175 days; Madison Stieve as a Grade 3 teacher at Bayview), an extended leave for teacher Abagael Flygare, and retirements or resignations including Keelan Conley, Therese Mackziewski and Erin McDannold.
There were no public comments during the meeting. The board adjourned at 8:11 p.m.
What’s next: Several policies were brought forward on first reading and will return for future action; the district will proceed with MSHSL Foundation application steps per the approved resolutions.
