On March 10 the board approved a one‑year affinity partnership agreement with Additions Financial Credit Union that allows the district to market a co‑branded debit card and receive small per‑swipe proceeds for new cards.
Chair Nicholas described the agreement as the district's "very first affinity contract," saying the program would return funds to the district's foundation. "Every new card that is purchased on the swipes for those new cards, the district receives 3¢ for every swipe," Nicholas said. He and legal counsel clarified the deal gives the superintendent authority to approve which school logos, if any, will be used.
Superintendent commented that the arrangement will initially focus proceeds through the district foundation and that district approval will be required for logo use. Additions Financial's representative, Rich, told the board April 3 will be the in‑branch launch for the first co‑branded cards and that the institution will run a PR campaign and provide a $100 incentive to district employees who join via a co‑branded landing page.
Board members discussed implementation details, timelines and oversight. Miss Wood asked whether parents could select a particular school's logo; counsel said logo use will be subject to superintendent approval and that operational logistics will be worked out if the program continues beyond the one‑year pilot. The motion to approve the agreement passed unanimously.
Board members framed the contract as a fundraising and outreach tool: proceeds from cards would support the Leon County Schools Foundation and the partnership will include promotional efforts to encourage employee and community participation. The board asked staff to coordinate PR messaging and implementation details.
