Resident urges action after dog attack at Lions Park

Ali Charles, a Willow Springs resident, told the village board she witnessed a dog attack at Lions Park on the morning of July 18, shortly before 6 a.m., and asked officials to take stronger animal-control action. "In a matter of seconds, [the dog] broke free from the stand ... and made a beeline through my dog's neck," Charles said, describing a traumatic confrontation that required her to pull the other animal off her pet.
Charles said she reported the incident to police at 5:56 a.m., told the board the dog has attacked other animals before and urged the chief to "look into this" and to require the dog be muzzled, neutered and secured behind a fence. "I love Willow and I love dogs. What I don't love is having to carry a stick to the family path to protect myself," she said.
President Nettingmeier acknowledged the complaint and told Charles the board would follow up. "We will look into all the things that you requested," he said.
The public comment did not produce a formal motion or vote. Charles told the board she had spoken previously about similar incidents and said some attacks had not been reported; she also said she had contacted Cook County animal control and asked village officials to consider more restrictive controls for repeated offenders. The board did not announce any immediate enforcement action at the hearing but said staff and the police department would investigate the matters raised.
The board's next steps, as stated at the meeting, were an internal inquiry by the police department and follow-up by village staff; no timeline was specified at the meeting.
