The Gulf County School Board unanimously approved a package of routine items and personnel actions at its Aug. 12 meeting in Port St. Joe.
On a motion by Vice Chairman Ruby Knox, seconded by board member Matt Terry, the board approved consent matters that included the July 29 minutes; a $14,500 change order for the PSJH Softball Project; and the 2025–2026 salary schedules "pending union ratification." The motion passed unanimously.
The consent agenda also included multiple personnel approvals: Mary Ann Peak submitted a letter of intent to enter DROP on Sept. 1, 2026, with an anticipated retirement date of Aug. 31, 2034, and selection of Option 1 for terminal pay of accrued leave. The board approved position transitions, district and school-based administrative staff salaries, and a number of hires and long-term substitute teachers with the effective dates listed in the meeting packet (effective dates ranged from Aug. 1 to Aug. 25, 2025). The board also approved a slate of substitute teacher applicants.
Board member Matt Terry noted he had toured the new softball field house and said the facility would benefit student athletes for years to come; the board then approved the $14,500 change order for that project.
The approvals were recorded as unanimous; the meeting packet lists Chairman Brooke Wooten, Vice Chairman Ruby Knox, Equillar Gainer and Matt Terry as present. The District 1 seat remained listed as "TBA."
