At its April 7 meeting the Deuel County Board of Commissioners approved the second reading of rezoning application B2022-01-09A, changing 71 acres from Agricultural to Commercial/Industrial.
Zoning Officer Jodi Theisen read the application. Michelle Oftedahl presented comparative utility valuations, reporting Scandinavia’s utility valuation at $46,252,802 and the county’s total utility valuation at $88,827,316. Commissioners discussed conditions the county wants imposed during the conditional use permit (CUP) process.
Commissioner Scott Fieber moved and Commissioner Harry Mewherter seconded approval of B2022-01-09A. The role-call vote was Homan — aye; Mewherter — aye; Fieber — nay; Rhody — nay; Grabow — aye. The motion carried.
Why it matters: Rezoning 71 acres from agricultural to commercial/industrial changes the range of allowable land uses and may enable new businesses or facilities subject to CUP conditions and utility service arrangements.
Next steps: County staff will proceed with CUP processes and any conditions discussed by the commission.
