Council awards $771,099 contract for public works storage building at North Pump Station

The Lucas City Council authorized Nov. 6 a construction contract for a public works storage building at the North Pump Station and amended budget accounts to fund the project.
Public Works Director Jeremy Bogle described the project as a covered storage area for equipment, noting the goal of protecting vehicles and machinery from weather and pests. The recommendation was to award the contract to Jones Brothers Construction for an amount not to exceed $771,099, add $25,000 for cameras and a 12% contingency, and amend the building improvements budget so the total project budget would be $888,630 using unrestricted water fund reserves.
Council asked about climate control and ventilation; Bogle said the building will have insulation, heaters and industrial fans but not full air conditioning. The council approved the motion to authorize the city manager to negotiate and execute the contract and amend the budget.
Staff will proceed with contract negotiation and schedule as typical for the city's procurement process.
