Hardee Senior High to expand AP offerings; district reports math coaching walkthroughs

Hardee Senior High plans to expand Advanced Placement offerings next school year, a board member said during the March 12 Hardee County School Board meeting.
"Hardee Senior High currently offers 10 AP courses this current school year ... they're expanding to 17 AP courses, which is a 58% increase from this year to next year," Ms. Dasher said during the superintendent's update, calling the expansion part of the school's AP Capstone diploma implementation.
Ms. Dasher said the school will add courses including AP business with finance, AP cybersecurity, AP statistics, AP calculus and AP precalculus, AP biology and AP research. She told the board the high school will be invited to present more explicit details on how it will implement the expanded program and support students seeking the AP Capstone diploma, which requires AP Seminar, AP Research and four additional AP courses.
A district-level speaker reported follow-up work on math instruction: "Since last Monday, I've led a team from a district level to conduct math classroom walk throughs in 21 classrooms in the school district," the speaker said, describing plans to continue those walkthroughs, coach teachers, and train principals and assistant principals on math instructional strategies.
Board members praised vocational site visits and junior high culinary program activity mentioned later in the meeting. No formal board action was recorded on the AP expansion; the school has been asked to return with implementation details.
