The Spotsylvania County School Board on March 10 approved term contracts for planning, architecture, engineering and design services, approved board committee assignments for 2025 and, after a closed session, approved an HR packet.
Doctor Daniels moved to approve the term contracts and highlighted that the division had added several new firms to its pool to diversify contracting opportunities. He encouraged small and local businesses to register on the Commonwealth of Virginia’s procurement portal so they will receive notices about requests for proposals. During discussion he read the portal address as "https colon forward slash forward slash e v a dot virginia dot gov." The board voted and the motion to approve term contracts passed 4–0.
The board then approved the 2025 committee assignments (motion passed 4–0). Later the board held a closed meeting permitted under §2.2‑37.11 of the Code of Virginia to discuss candidate appointments and personnel matters; after returning to open session the board certified, by roll call, that the closed meeting complied with the law and then voted to approve the HR packet from closed session.
Board member Carol Medawar orally disclosed a personal interest tied to a family member’s employment with the division and cited statutory sections that, in her view, permitted her to participate in deliberation and voting; she asked that the disclosure be included in the minutes.
Next steps: Procurement staff will use the new term contracts when projects arise and continue outreach to small businesses; human resources will process the approved HR packet.
