School board approves revised CIP reallocating funds to drainage, roofs and safety projects

Facilities staff told the board that elementary‑level reductions and postponements totaling about $1.63 million were repurposed toward pressing needs such as Livingston Elementary’s drainage field and a water‑storage tank refurbishment. The Livingston drainage field project was expedited into FY2026 with an increase presented as $1.2 million to address what staff described as an imminent failure in site drainage. Several middle‑ and high‑school projects were reduced in scope and reclassified to contingency to free funds for fire‑suppression system repairs and to move the Masaponics High School roof replacement into FY2026 (an increase shown in the slides to accelerate contracting).
Staff described their prioritization process as data‑driven and focused on life‑safety, building occupancy and immediate operational impacts. Board members asked for clarification on specific drainage issues at Spotswood and Chancellor campuses and were told engineers are engaged for site evaluations; staff committed to follow‑up and to present proposed fixes and timelines at a subsequent meeting.
After discussion, the board approved the FY2026 CIP updates and the FY2027 revisions by unanimous votes. Board members praised the transparency of the prioritization process and asked that staff continue to provide project‑level detail and quarterly reporting on appropriation transfers, especially where projects are reduced in scope and funds reallocated into contingency.
The approvals allow staff to proceed with contract execution for projects scheduled this summer, including the expedited Masaponics roof contract. Staff noted continuing market and labor‑cost pressures in trades that could affect future project budgets and said the division will continue to prioritize work by safety and system criticality.
