Spotsylvania school board elects Megan Jackson as chair, confirms vice chair and clerks

Megan Jackson was elected chair of the Spotsylvania County School Board on Jan. 12 during the board's annual reorganization meeting.
The board opened nominations for chair and, after a motion by board member Rich Lieberman and a second, closed nominations and approved Jackson's election by voice/show-of-hands vote 7-0. Members then nominated and unanimously elected Miss (Bolin) Rhodes as vice chair.
The board also approved Patty Bowler as clerk of the board and Doctor Martin as deputy clerk, and reaffirmed the superintendent's designees (Kelly Gimple and Doctor Deborah Frazier) to sign documents in the superintendent's absence as required under section 22.1-76 of the Code of Virginia. The regular meeting schedule for 2026 and the board's code of ethics were approved by unanimous votes.
Superintendent Clint Mitchell opened the reorganization process and congratulated the incoming leaders. Newly elected board members Rich Lieberman, Larry De Bella and Jennifer Craig Ford were introduced during the meeting; Cora Shields was welcomed as the division's first student school board representative.
The reorganization concluded with routine housekeeping and appointments meant to ensure continuity for the coming year. Several board members emphasized fiscal stewardship and attention to priorities such as teacher compensation and classroom resources during the member remarks that followed.
