Beardstown council approves painting, repairs, engineering agreement and $105,869 truck purchase

BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — The Beardstown City Council on Tuesday approved a package of routine contracts and purchases, including a city-hall painting job, pipe repairs at the fire station, engineering services for lead service lines and the purchase of a new truck.
A motion by Alderperson Dawn Seward, seconded by an alderperson identified as Davis, approved a bid from Turner Painting and Construction for $11,925 to paint City Hall. The motion passed 6-0 by roll call; those voting in the affirmative were Shawn Taylor, Dawn Seward, Ron Culves, Eric Harbin, Keith Schramm and Davis. Two council members, Dawson-Hoenes and Buhlig, were recorded as absent.
Separately, the council accepted a bid of $6,222.79 from Beardstown E & M for pipe repairs to the Beardstown Fire Station in a motion by Alderperson Eric Harbin, seconded by Shawn Taylor. The record shows the motion passed with five yes votes; Alderperson Dawn Seward is recorded as having abstained on that vote. The minutes list the Yeas as Taylor, Culves, Harbin, Schramm and Davis and note Dawson-Hoenes and Buhlig as absent.
The council also approved an agreement with Benton and Associates for engineering services related to lead service-line work. Alderperson Dawn Seward moved the measure; Alderperson Eric Harbin seconded it and the motion passed 6-0. The motion language recorded in the minutes was: "to enter into an agreement with Benton and Associates for engineering services for lead service lines." The transcript does not specify a contract amount.
On equipment, the council voted to accept a bid from Morrow Brothers Ford for a 2026 Ford F550 in the amount of $105,869.00. The motion, made by Seward and seconded by Harbin, passed 6-0 by roll call.
Earlier in the meeting, the council dispensed with reading of the Jan. 6, 2026 minutes and approved them with a correction that Eric Harbin had made a motion. The Consent Agenda and the disbursements for the period ending Feb. 3, 2026 were approved under the omnibus vote designation.
Mayor Tim Harris, in his report to the council, said a newly remodeled hotel in Beardstown wants to apply for a liquor license; he described improvements under the new owner and requested the item be placed on the agenda for the council’s next meeting. No formal action on the liquor-license request was taken at the Feb. 3 meeting.
The meeting, held at Beardstown City Hall, began at 6:10 p.m. and adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
