Kewanee council backs amended parking rules and directs staff to end funding for KEDC after year-end

The Kewanee City Council discussed parking rules, e-bike regulation and funding for the Kewanee Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) during the Nov. 12 meeting.
Police Chief Kijanowski told the council that state statute adequately addresses e-bike regulation and recommended the city avoid duplicative local rules; the council agreed. Chief Kijanowski also said the current ordinance effectively prohibits on-street parking while the city historically enforces a 72-hour limit, and the council indicated support for an amended parking ordinance presented for review.
Separately, Mayor Moore said he believes the city is not receiving the desired results from KEDC for the funding the city provides. Council members agreed and directed staff to complete the current year’s agreement with KEDC and then cease funding the organization going forward.
The council did not record additional directives or financial figures related to ending the KEDC agreement beyond the policy direction to stop funding after the current year.
