Hamburg Area SD board approves homebound instruction request and personnel actions

Separately, the board approved a slate of personnel actions after they were presented by administration. Items in the personnel packet included the resignation of Patrick Hanlon as assistant high-school football coach (effective June 11, 2026); a retirement notice from Sherry Fuhrmann, Tilden Elementary teacher (effective June 5, 2026 or the last day of the 2025–2026 academic year); the appointment of Kirstin Fitzpatrick as a homebound instructor (effective Feb. 23–April 6, 2026) at $25.00/hour for up to five hours per week; the hiring of Alicia Merkel as an autistic-support paraeducator at Perry Elementary (effective Feb. 13, 2026) at $16.34/hour; and extracurricular appointments including coaching stipends (for example, Jason Pfautz as assistant girls wrestling coach with an annual stipend of $2,025). The motion to approve personnel actions was made by Birgit White, seconded by Tonia Krick, and a roll-call vote recorded eight yes votes and no opposition.
Why it matters: Personnel actions affect school operations, extracurricular programs and classroom staffing. Approvals included instructional accommodations for a student and multiple staffing adjustments for the coming months.
What’s next: The board announced an executive session after adjournment to discuss Act 93 matters (personnel contracts); no additional public votes on these personnel items were recorded at the meeting.
