Hamburg Area School District board approves club, agreements, policies, stipends and personnel actions

At its Dec. 15 meeting the Hamburg Area School District board unanimously approved a High School Fishing Club, an agreement with Wilkes University, multiple board policies and position descriptions, financial reports and a slate of stipend and personnel actions including a teacher retirement. The Hamburg Area School District Board of Directors approved a series of routine and personnel items at its Dec. 15 meeting, including the creation of a High School Fishing Club and an agreement with Wilkes University.
Board President Ryan Gebely opened the meeting at 6:31 p.m. and the board approved the Nov. 10 and Dec. 3 meeting minutes on a motion by Birgit White, seconded by Carson Adams. The board then handled multiple agenda motions by unanimous roll-call votes (nine directors voting yes on each recorded motion).
Among the actions approved, the board voted to: establish a High School Fishing Club (motion by Birgit White; second Thomas DeAngelo); approve an agreement with Wilkes University (motion by Thomas DeAngelo; second Tonia Krick); and accept a package of financial reports and invoices. Business Manager Michele Zimmerman presented the financial materials; the General Fund Treasurer's Report for October and November 2025 was approved in the amount of $2,291,314.29. The board also approved Food Service invoices totaling $100,783.62, Capital Reserve payments of $6,233.60, High School activity fund checks of $22,385.19, Middle School activity fund checks of $1,039.38, and the listed disposal items. “Motion carried with nine directors voting yes,” was recorded after the financial approval.
The board approved several policy items and position descriptions. A motion by Birgit White, seconded by Tonia McFadden, approved Board Policy 339 (Uncompensated Leave) and a suite of home‑education policies (137, 137.1, 137.2, 137.3). Separately, the board approved a T.V. Studio Advisor extra‑curricular position description (motion by Laura “Lolly” Lesher; second Daniel Sarna) and authorized stipend positions and payments for the 2025–2026 academic year (motion by Birgit White; second Toni McFadden).
Personnel actions approved included the retirement notice of Brynell Stevens, High School English/World Language teacher, effective June 5, 2026; an internal transfer for Megan Adams (paraeducator reassignment, effective Dec. 8, 2025); hires for extra‑curricular assistant coaching roles (Sophia Harakel and Francis Williams, effective Dec. 16, 2025); and a list of district volunteers. All personnel actions were approved by roll-call vote.
The board received the October–November board summary and November enrollment data for information. The meeting moved into an executive session on personnel at 7:22 p.m. and resumed regular session at 7:30 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m. on a motion by Toni McFadden, seconded by Carson Adams.
