Beaver Area SD board unanimously approves broad consent agenda, grant and major purchases

The Beaver Area School District Board of School Directors unanimously approved a broad consent agenda at its Dec. 9 voting session, authorizing a $500,000 capital reserve transfer, recording donations and grants, and approving several equipment purchases and routine fund invoices.
The board approved the capital reserve transfer for the 2023–24 fiscal year and ratified multiple budget transfers and the General Fund budget transfers as of Nov. 30, 2024. A Ready to Learn Block Grant of $598,853 was acknowledged; the board recorded that the grant will help offset programming previously supported by ESSER funds, including full‑day kindergarten, STEM programming, tutoring and summer learning programs.
Under the consent umbrella, trustees approved purchases for school kitchens: an iCombi Oven for the Dutch Ridge cafeteria at $44,685 (TriMark SS Kemp quote, contingent on Pennsylvania Department of Education approval) and a Hot Food Well for College Square at $8,100 (also contingent on PDE approval). The board also approved replacement of a CareHawk IP‑Hybrid intercom/paging system for $41,451 and the purchase of a 2025 Ford F350 pickup with plow and spreader for a net $49,593.35 after a $10,000 trade‑in credit.
The board ratified payment of General Fund invoices of $3,008,374.91 and approved additional fund invoices (Food Service $125,029.13; Activities $610.74; Athletic Account $6,256.00; Capital Reserve $12,500.00; Capital Projects $81,881.14). Treasurer's reports and financial statements for October were also approved.
Other consent approvals included MOUs for student supports (a no‑cost pilot subscription with MetaNu/ThinkSync for grades 6–12 and an MOU with Keystone Wellness Programs to provide 'The Blues Program' for grades 9–12), policy updates and readings, the Vector Solutions one‑year renewal for employee safety training at $3,251.02, facilities use and donation agreements with Brighton Township for Hardy Fields (donation not to exceed $12,000), and routine personnel items such as substitutes, volunteer approvals and the creation of an Extended Substitute position.
Votes at a glance: all recorded consent items (6.1–14.2) were approved on a single motion by Mark Korcinsky, seconded by Andrea Walker, with the nine directors present recorded as voting aye: Luke Berardelli, Aaron Bovalino, Merilu Hill, Mark Korcinsky, Karin Pilarski, Robin Thompson, Andrea Walker, Denise Yates and Victoria Bartholomew.
The board also cast BVIU reorganization ballots for 2025–26 and designated the Beaver County Times and Ellwood City Ledger as the district's official newspapers for public notices.
