Greeley council approves most consent items, schedules special interviews for West Greeley oversight panel

In a roll-call vote the council approved items 9 through 25, excluding items 10 and 22, on a 6–0 vote. Councilmember Olson moved to approve the consent agenda and Councilmember Rudy seconded; Clerk Heidi conducted the roll call.
Council then approved a separate motion, also 6–0, to call a special meeting on April 16 to conduct interviews for the West Greeley Citizen Oversight Committee. Staff told the council they had received about 59 applicants and proposed a process to narrow the pool: each councilmember would provide three candidates in each of three categories — supporting, opposing and neutral regarding the West Greeley project — to create a balanced packet of roughly 20 applicants for interviews. "We looked over the applications; we'd like to put them into 3 groups, supporting, opposed, and neutral," a staff member said, asking members to return nominations by Monday so packets could be provided Friday ahead of the April 16 interviews.
Mayor Dale Hall said the timeline would allow the council to appoint members on April 21 and hold the committee's first session April 30. The council voted to call the special meeting after members discussed the logistical challenge of interviewing more than 50 candidates in a single sitting.
The council also directed the city attorney to prepare any necessary resolutions, ordinances and agreements reflecting the meeting's actions and authorized the mayor and city clerk to sign those documents.
The scheduled special meeting and the oversight committee process set a procedural path for citizen involvement in reviewing the West Greeley project; the committee's makeup and the city's rubric for sorting applicants will determine how viewpoints for and against the project are represented at interviews.
