JLK arena manager says bookings rose, aims to make venue a youth hub

Britney Allen, who introduced herself as the JLK arena manager, told the council she marked one year in the management role and reported stronger bookings: "This time last year, we had a ton of... we did not have anybody scheduled to come back in," she said, and added that going into 2026 the arena currently has four open weekends between now and Aug. 1.
Allen described efforts to produce JLK events on weekends the arena otherwise would be idle and highlighted growth of the Hill Country Rodeo Association membership (she said the group grew from a projected 34 to 88 members and that the awards banquet raised over $2,000 toward next year). She said the arena hosted junior rodeo levels for ages 4 through 19 and that many weeknight events are free, encouraging local families to attend.
Council members praised the improvements and several said the arena's community programming and out-of-town visitors benefit local businesses. Allen said she hoped to position the arena as a "youth hub" with more junior events and continued community access.
No formal council action was required for the presentation; council thanked Allen for her work.
