The Essex County Board of County Commissioners approved multiple procurement awards and contract extensions across parks, public works and facilities.
Highlights include:
- A negotiated contract to Structure Care (not-to-exceed $590,500) for maintenance and repairs to three parking decks at the South Mountain Recreation Complex, with two inspections per deck per year.
- Landscaping and turf contracts for park maintenance and supplies, and a janitorial services contract at Turtleback Zoo awarded to Hudson Community Enterprises (24-month, not-to-exceed $196,000) with the firm's representative noting local employment and payroll figures.
- A contract for summer concert production services (not-to-exceed $192,600) and several other parks-related equipment and maintenance purchases.
- Public Works awards: Pritchard Industries received a 5-year janitorial services award for county properties at 321 University Avenue (not-to-exceed $3,204,772); Magic Touch Construction’s two-year option for countywide plumbing services was exercised; and French & Parello was awarded design and inspection work for refurbishing the Gibbons exhibit at Turtleback Zoo (not-to-exceed $168,000).
Board members asked operational questions about inspection frequencies and scope for structural inspections, vendor presence, employee wages and union affiliations; vendors and staff responded. The items were moved in groups and approved by roll call.
