Copperton engineering reports ADA ramp completion, archway plan and verbal $3 million stormwater award

Keith Hartman, the town and MSD traffic engineer, updated the council on several capital and grant matters. He said two ADA‑compliant pedestrian ramps at the northwest corner of Copperton Park have been completed to improve access. “That project has been completed,” Hartman said, and staff plan to finalize any remaining punch list items.

Hartman also described design work for a proposed centennial archway at Copperton Park. Methods Consulting was expected to deliver a scope and fee for structural design; Hartman outlined rough construction figures discussed with a local mason—approximately $4,500–5,000 per brick column plus steel costs—and estimated total build costs could be significantly less than the design budget of roughly $70,000 assigned to the overall archway project. Council discussed siting the arch on the park’s northeast corner to avoid mature trees and allow vehicle access under the arch where needed.

Separately, Hartman said Copperton has been verbally informed by Burgess Buckland’s office that the town was awarded $3,000,000 for the town’s StormBreed phase 2 stormwater project, but the town has not yet received formal written confirmation. “We’ve been verbally told ... that Copperton’s been been awarded $3,000,000 for that project,” Hartman said; staff are trying to obtain formal written notice and will report back when confirmed.

No binding budget approvals occurred at the meeting; the remarks were provided for update and follow up.
