Tyson Emborg, science and social studies curriculum coordinator for the Douglas County School District, briefed the Highlands Ranch Metropolitan District board on Jan. 27 about the America 250 and Colorado 150 commemoration. Emborg said the commemorative period runs from July 4, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2026 and that this dual celebration last happened in 1976.
Emborg encouraged communities, organizations, schools and individuals to register events of any size for inclusion on the statewide calendar and historical archive and noted use of the official logo is free and available to the public. He said educational resources and student activities are being developed across multiple grade levels and are intended to have instructional value beyond 2026. Emborg offered to serve as a local contact to promote participation in Douglas County.
Board members thanked Emborg for the presentation and his interest in community involvement. No formal action was taken.
