Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles denies parole in majority of Feb. 4 docket, grants several pardons and conditional paroles

Chairperson Hal Nash presided over the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles meeting on Feb. 4, 2026, in Montgomery, where the board reviewed its regular parole and pardon docket and took decisions on 37 individual requests. The board denied parole in 19 cases, granted parole with conditions in 8 cases, granted 8 pardons (including several full pardons restoring civil and political rights) and denied 2 pardon requests; several grants included conditions such as halfway-house placement, GPS ankle monitoring, substance treatment and mental-health follow-up.

The meeting opened at 8:30 a.m. and the board approved minutes from the Feb. 3 meeting. Board members recorded as present were Chairperson Hal Nash and Board Member Gabrelle Simmons; Nicole Lewis served as board secretary for the record. Public supporters, family members and representatives appeared at the hearing for many applicants; victim advocates and representatives of district attorneys' offices also registered opposition in numerous cases.
