County Engineer Dillon Davenport told the Wayne County Board of Supervisors on June 25 that the county is exploring a structural repair for an approximately half-mile stretch of East Old Highway 2 and is likely to pursue work in August or later.
Dillon Davenport said the dura patcher is not a good option for that stretch because “there is a lot of rebar exposed,” and he recommended grinding up and relaying the base before topping it with road rock as the best long-term solution. Davenport also reported early-season "blowups" appearing around the county, described a bridge replacement involving a railroad tanker car on 150th Street south of the Howe, and said the bridge crew working on 105th Street near Allerton is open to traffic. He added that 190th Street is open for traffic and that TK Concrete may begin a shoulder and drainage project next week.
The board approved a revised Memorandum of Understanding between the Board and the Engineer's Office for Secondary Roads at the same meeting; Todd Wilson moved to approve the MOU and Chris Moore seconded the motion, which was recorded as approved by the supervisors present.
Davenport's outline of options for East Old Highway 2 prioritized long-term stability over temporary fixes and set an implementation window (August or later) rather than an immediate contract award. No funding appropriation for that specific East Old Highway 2 work was recorded in the meeting minutes; the board's approval of routine claims included substantial road-related expenditures elsewhere on the claims list.
The update was presented as part of the regular meeting; the board took the MOU and asset-management actions on the record and moved on to other business.
