Medford Area School Board approves staff leave changes, CESA contract and Forward Bank sponsorship

The Medford Area Public School District Board of Education approved several personnel and contract motions at its March 25 regular meeting.
The board approved a professional staff request (motion by Board President Dave Fleegel; second by Board Member Steve Deml) to allow long‑standing household relationships to be considered immediate family for the purpose of paid funeral leave. The board also approved a support‑staff motion (Deml/Fleegel) to raise the maximum sick‑day carryover from 96 to 108 days and to begin awarding years‑of‑service bonuses after five years; other unspecified support requests were denied. Remaining certified requests were deferred to April’s finance and board meetings.
Ryan Pilgrim presented a sponsorship agreement proposal from Forward Bank for Medford Area Senior High’s Raider Hall. The bank offered $50,000 for a 10‑year sponsorship (June 1, 2024–May 30, 2034) that would include two court‑floor logo placements (logos not to exceed 48 inches in height) and logos under the Raider Hall scoreboards; Forward Bank also agreed to pay $6,500 to replace and brand wall mats. The board approved the agreements for a total of $56,500 (motion by Brian Hallgren, second by Steve Deml).
The board accepted a Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) contract presented by District Administrator Pat Sullivan at a cost of $58,533 (motion Fleegel/Zuleger).
A finance committee motion to approve the Bauernfeind proposal was also carried following a brief update from Board Member Brian Hallgren and Audra Brooks.
