The Gainesville City Council approved three Special Use Permits (SUPs) for short-term rentals at its Dec. 16 meeting following brief public hearings that drew no speakers.
Mayor Tommy Moore opened public hearings on SUPs for 115 E Pecan St, 1400 Jean St and 1406 W California. In each case the record shows "no citizen came forward to speak on behalf of the item." Before the final votes the minutes note motions to "SUSPEND THE CHARTER" (verbatim from the record) were made; following those motions councilmembers moved to approve the ordinances.
